Hello Hardy families
On Friday, we had a Project Build Hardy assembly. See more information below.
We also had a favorite team’s Spirit Day as students wore jerseys, hats etc. representing their favorite sports teams.
Farewell to Hunnewell Community
As the Hunnewell community prepares to move into their new building, I want to say how much we’ve enjoyed having Hunnewell students, families, and staff as part of the Hardy community over the past year and a half. At the assembly this past week, Hunnewell students shared a special thank you with the Hardy community, which included messages of appreciation as demonstrated in words spoken and posters. The Hardy students are planning to do a special clap out this Friday morning as a way to show our well-wishes to the Hardy students as they move back to Hunnewell. As part of this clap out, Hardy students will line the hallways and Hunnewell students will process through the building while Hardy students clap for the Hunnewell students. Good luck, Hunnewell as you come back together as a school community in your new school building!
Staffing Update
As part of the Hunnewell transition, our school nurse Mrs. Costello will be returning to Hunnewell after the February vacation. We wish Mrs. Costello well and are most grateful for her dedication to the Hardy students over the past year and a half. After vacation, we will have Mrs. Pickett, who has been serving as the resource nurse for WPS, here for the remainder of the year. She will no longer be serving as a resource nurse while she is serving at Hardy. Please join me in welcoming Mrs. Pickett to Hardy!
Project Build Hardy Update
On Friday, we had a Project Build Hardy assembly. This was tied into our focus for the month of February, which is HVAC. We were joined by Chuck Stronach, Mechanical Engineer from Shawmut Construction. Mr. Stronach provided an overview of heating and cooling operations including outdoor air handling units, interior ductwork, interior fan powered units, and wired control systems. Students will now complete follow up activities in classrooms that have to do with the function of insulation. Stay tuned for more updates on Project Build Hardy in the coming months.
Time Capsule
As the class gift from the Hardy class of 2024, a time capsule box was purchased. The time capsule includes artifacts that will teach the audience of the future about the Hardy School in 2024 and the present day culture at large. Artifacts included in time capsule:
-
a school yearbook from the Hardy class of 2023 that contains photos of the current Hardy School building, groundbreaking ceremony, and modern day culture (student clothing, interests etc).
-
sample of modern day technology including an iPad, Keyboard, and mouse
-
One Wellesley T-shirt that all Wellesley school children received in 2023 and names the 7 elementary schools currently in use in Wellesley.
-
Student writing- letters to future Hardy students by the current 5th graders
-
Results from a student survey that included the favorite book, movie, song, and recess activity as voted by Hardy students in 2023.
-
The favorite book voted by students- Lion Lights- My Invention That Made Peace with Lions by Richard Turere.
This time capsule has been handed over to the construction team to be put into the walls of the new Hardy School building. We hope this will provide a helpful piece of history for the Wellesley residents of the future who will open this box.
School Spirit Day
We’ll have our next Spirit Day this upcoming Friday. Students are invited to wear their Husky or Hawks gear to school!
Have a great week and a great upcoming February vacation!
Respectfully yours,
