Hello Hardy
Highlights from the past week:
On Friday, we had a Spirit Day as students showed their Hardy spirit as they wore their Husky gear to school.
Promoting the R for Respect in RISE
Spring is in the air at Hardy School and there is excitement about warmer weather and sunshine. However, we want to make sure that students are following RISE, particularly the way in which they show respect to one another, adults, and to school property. With this in mind, I, along with Lisa Goodman, and Julie McMenamy, are visiting classrooms this week to go over expectations for showing respect in the main areas of the building (classroom, hallway, recess, lunch, bathroom, etc) and to preview a set of posters that are going up in the building that remind students of specific ways they are expected to show respect in these spaces.
Students will be rewarded for showing respect using paws (which will be given for demonstration of respect). Students who consistently struggle with showing respect will be asked to fill out a Think About It reflection form. Thank you for your support as we partner together to promote respect at Hardy!
School Council Update
At our March School Council meeting, we discussed ways that we could promote student agency, which is an important part of the WPS strategic plan. To this end, the Council is planning a student council for Hardy to begin in the 2024-2025 school year. As part of this effort, student council members would be given the opportunity to identify areas of concern within the school (e.g. litter on the schoolyard) and then develop a project to help address this concern area (e.g. plan for classes to take turns picking up litter) and then present their project to the school community at an all school meeting. As the details of the student council get firmed up, this will be shared out. We look forward to promoting student agency by giving students a voice through a school council.
Special Thanks
Thanks to the first grade parents who provided a delicious lunch for staff this past week. We appreciate your support in this way!
Have a great week!
Respectfully yours,
