Hello Hardy
Highlights from the past week:
On Wednesday, we took part in International Walk & Roll to School Day. Kudos to Mr. Guzzi for planning this event for our community.
On Thursday, we had our first meeting of the School Council. Members discussed the launch of our newly established Student Council (an initiative was planned by the School Council members last year as a way to promote student agency). We also discussed focus areas for this upcoming school year. Stay tuned for updates on the work of the School Council in future principal letters.
Pumpkin Parade
On Thursday, October 31st at 8:45 AM, we will have a first ever Pumpkin Parade at Hardy! In celebration of fall, students are invited to bring in a decorated pumpkin (That can comfortably be carried into school, so not too big or heavy):
Students could decorate pumpkin:
- as a character
- in a spooky way
- paint or bedazzle
- Be creative!
-
Materials suggestions:
- acrylic paint
- stickers
- pompons
- sharpies/permanent markers
- googly eyes
- pipe cleaners
- buttons
Pumpkins are to be brought to school on Oct. 31st. These will be positioned outside in front of the building throughout the front plaza.
Parents/guardians are invited to view these pumpkins. Come to the outside of the front of the building at 8:45 AM for this event. Parents/guardians can park along the driveway loop, right hand side only (starting at 8:35 AM). Students will start off standing by their own pumpkins (which will be arranged by class) and then they will parade through our line of pumpkins to view all others.
Revised procedures for carline afternoon pickup
As we have now lived with our pick up procedures from the start of school, we are making some slight tweaks. One is that we have a new plan for staff members to take note of student names earlier in the car line so that all students are cued up and waiting when the cars arrive at the front of the line. We’ll also be having students positioned outside by grade level so matching them to cars will go more quickly. Also, we are giving all parents/guardians homework! Tomorrow your child will bring home a blank 8 ½ x 11 piece of yellow paper. This is to be used for a revised car line sign. Please fill in one sign per family with the first name(s) of child(ren), grade levels of child(ren) and the last name of the child(ren) written in bold. Then post in your car passenger side window at pick up starting on Wednesday at dismissal.
Revised procedures for walker pickup
As we have now lived with our pick up procedures from the start of school, we are making a tweak to the location of the walker pick up. All walker pick up will now take place on the basketball court (an area that is significantly larger than the current area used in the front plaza). K-2nd grade walkers will be exiting the building at the cafeteria exit door and coming around to the basketball court from the front of the building and 3rd-5th grade walkers will be exiting out a rear exit door and coming around to the basketball court from the back of the building. We’ll have cones set up that will mark where different grade levels will be brought to meet parents/guardians for walker pick up.
Attention 4th grade parents/guardians
You are invited to our all-school meeting this upcoming Friday at 8:45 AM. This all-school meeting will be led by our 4th graders and will take place in the cafeteria.
Special Thanks
Thanks to the fifth grade parents/guardians for planning a special lunch for our staff which we enjoyed at the beginning of the month.
Respectfully yours,
Grant Smith
Principal
