Hello Hardy families:

Congratulations on another wonderful year!  There were many amazing end of the year classroom and school wide celebrations. The building was filled with a lot of activity and families the final weeks of school.

On the last day of school we said farewell to our grade 5 students; they are now officially middle school students. Congratulations to the class of 2015!

Given enrollment changes during the spring, grade level configurations can change.  A grade level can fluctuate between two and three sections. This causes changes to staffing since a grade level that once had three sections can be reduced to two and the opposite is also true.  Our kindergarten enrollments are uncertain at this time, however that will be determined shortly. Therefore, with that in mind I ask that parents understand that I will do my best to keep you informed in a way that is as timely as possible.

The end of the year brings about staffing changes.  Each year there are surprises and this year brings about unexpected changes as well. Staffing changes happen for many reasons, but regardless of the reason, whether personal, career changes, different location etc. it is hard to say farewell to staff who have been a part of our community, no matter how long or how short.  Joe Kayser, Alissa Gillis and Elizabeth Berry will be exploring other experiences and opportunities outside of Hardy.  We wish them well and will miss them. Melissa Zweig will be extending her leave of absence through next year as well with plans to return in the fall of 2016.

We are also welcoming new staff and new grade level teams to Hardy.  At this point these are:
Cailin Andruskevich will be joining the grade 5 team along with Meghan Sjostedt.  We have added an additional section to our grade 5 and during the final week of school we hired Nancy Bentley who comes to us with 14 years of teaching experience from Reading.

Brie Lemire will be our grade 3 teacher during Melissa Zweig’s leave of absence.  Brie comes to us from Hunnewell where she has taught grade 3 for the past grade three years.

Dean Blase sent out an announcement to parents a couple of weeks ago regarding our new World Language Department head Barbara Barnett.  Barbara comes to us from Bedford, where she has served as the Foreign Language Department Head since 2003.  She will lead the charge in developing our new Spanish Elementary program, collaborating with teachers and administrators across the district, and working with community members to grow our program.  She will also work with the Sprague Elementary Spanish teacher and with curriculum leaders to develop our K-5 curriculum next year.  Most importantly, she will get to know our students by teaching Spanish to grades K, 1, and 2 at Hardy.

While I know families are busy over the summer, remember that I am still available to address any questions or concerns you may have.  Please feel free to give me a call or email.

Sincerely,
Charlene Cook, Principal
