Hello Hardy

Highlights from the past week:

On Monday, our new playground opened and students got to enjoy this space for the first time! Our Fitness & Health Teacher Mr. Guzzi did an overview of playground expectations with students.

On Wednesday and Thursday, we had our final days of parent-teacher conferences.

On Thursday, we had our November meeting of the Hardy School Council. We reviewed a draft of the School Improvement Plan, discussed the first part of the book “The Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt, and began to consider the implications of this book for the Hardy community.

On Friday, we had our November meeting of Class Buddies. Kindergarten & 5th grade buddies read books together. First and third grade buddies did a scavenger hunt in the third grade classrooms and second and fourth grade buddies did activity pages tied to Thanksgiving.

Student Council

For the month of November, we have a new cohort of 5th graders who have identified a focus area that consists of refining lunchroom procedures to ensure fairness and efficiency as students are called up to the lunch line. We are in the process of interviewing the lunchroom staff who work in the kitchen, Mrs. Kalamkovis (our lunchroom monitor), and Mrs. O’Brien (who helps with supervision in the cafeteria). Then we’ll consider refined procedures that are acceptable to the adults and address student concerns. Written directions and/or posters will be made that outline procedures as part of the end product. Stay tuned for more updates on the work of the Student Council in upcoming Principal Letters.

Attention 3rd Grade Parents/Guardians

On Friday at 8:45 AM, we will be having our November all school meeting, which will be led by our third graders. Parents/guardians of 3rd grade students are invited to attend.

Special Thanks

Thanks to the PTO for providing snacks to teachers/staff on Wednesday, in conjunction with the start of parent-teacher conferences. We appreciate your ongoing support!

Respectfully yours,

Grant Smith

Principal
