“An individual has not started living until he can rise above the narrow confines of his individualistic concerns to the broader concerns of all humanity.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dear Fiske Families,

In observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, school will be closed on Monday. This week classes have learned about  his life and his positive influence on our lives. The above quote was highlighted on our school monitor.  It reminds us all the importance of  being thoughtful of others.  Please take some time this weekend to reflect on the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and how we can all be a positive influence on our communities by caring for eachother.

Thank you to Tracy Cyr, Sherri Herman,  Linda Wilkins and all the volunteers for hosting such a fun family evening of bingo last Friday.  I am looking forward to having a pizza lunch with our winners.

It has been noticed that students are wearing smart watches, such as Gizmos, that can both receive and send calls and text messages.  We ask that these devices be left at home as they can be distracting during the school day.  Please refer to our Insider’s Guide to Fiske  on page 17 for further information regarding our cell phone and smart watch guidelines.  Thank you.

Please join us for our third PTO meeting of the year on Thursday, January 18th at 8:45 a.m. in the library.  We will be reviewing the MCAS scores from the spring of  2017 and discussing how we use this data point, along with many other data points, to inform our instruction.

An invitation from our Superintendent Dr. David Lussier:

Dear Wellesley Community:

We are excited to collaborate with the Wellesley Education Foundation to bring Ken Kay, CEO of EdLeader21, to Wellesley to discuss “Preparing Students for Their 21st Century Lives“.  The presentation is scheduled for Monday, January 22nd, at 7 pm, at Wellesley High School.

The principles of 21st Century Learning incorporate a set of skills known as the 4Cs:  Creativity, Communication, Collaboration and Critical Thinking.  These skills complement our students’ focus on the mastery of course content and are a key priority for WPS.  As we prepare to further integrate 21st Century Learning principles into our curriculum, we will be developing a Profile of a Graduate (POG) for Wellesley that reflects our community’s values and aspirations, and will form the foundation of WPS’s next Strategic Plan.  Please visit our website to learn more about our newly formed Profile of a Graduate Task Force and how you can participate.

We welcome all community members to join us on Monday, January 22, at 7 pm, Wellesley High School, to learn more about 21st Century Learning and the Profile of a Graduate concept.  Pre-registration for this event is encouraged.  Please go to this link to register.

A message from BOKS Coordinator,  Jen Bonniwell:

Morning Fun & Games Resumes Tues&Weds Jan. 23

Want to get your kids up and running around before school during the winter? Bring them to our winter session of BOKS (Bringing Our Kids Success) morning activity program. We play tag games, run relay races and learn to love life-long exercise skills like jumping jacks, push-ups, donkey kicks and sit-ups. This is a completely parent-run program started by a Natick mom, and now is supported by Reebok. Learn more at boks.org.

Winter Session Details:

Tuesdays and Wednesdays Jan. 23-Feb. 14

Drop-off 7:30-7:40 am in the Fiske gym.

Girls and boys welcome ages K-5th grade. Please email or bring along this registration form.

NOTE DAY CHANGE: We’re running on Tuesdays and Wednesdays –NOT Thurs–(because of band/orchestra).

Parents welcome! Remember, this is parent-run, so if we don’t get parents to help, then we cannot run BOKS. If you can help during BOKS, please sign up online:
