October 31, 2014 Hello Hardy families: MCAS Night: I will hold a MCAS presentation for all those interested in hearing how amazing Hardy did last year on the MCAS.  I am working on confirming a date during the second or third week in Nov. and it will take place between 6:30 and 7:30. This will also be a time for those of you who have not experienced MCAS an opportunity to learn more and ask questions.  All grade level parents are welcome and encouraged to attend.  iPad Initiative in Grade 3: Our local reporter Patty Bovie wrote a wonderful article featuring the work of our third grade team using the iPads in the classrooms. I am very proud of the response Hardy parents have had in support of providing our students with state of the art technology that can be incorporated into engaging and motivating classroom instruction.  I am looking forward to ways to provide this same experience for our 4th graders.  Any support with this will be greatly appreciated. Our current Hardy grade 3 students would be the first in Wellesley to have the 1:1 experience beginning in grade 3 and moving on up if we can also bring iPads to the 4th grade classrooms. Check out Patty’s iPad article:  http://wellesley.wickedlocal.com/article/20141023/NEWS/141028045/12424 Drop off items: We all forget things so if you child forgets something at home please drop it off in the office. We will deliver it to your child’s classroom for you. Lost and Found:  Check out the lost and found table that Mr. Guzzi set up outside the library! Many things are looking for their home. Candy Drive: The Wellesley Dental Group is holding its annual Candy drive.  Last year we won $200.00, second place for the most candy collected in the town.  For those of you who are new to Wellesley, Dr. Ali and Ali ask the schools to bring in candy donations from their trick or treating collections and donate them to soldiers overseas.  It is a wonderful cause and is greatly appreciated by the service men and woman overseas.  The children are also encouraged to write a note of encouragement to our brave soldiers.   Students can drop off their candy in the Hardy office between November 3rd and 14thWhen they drop off candy they will receive a raffle ticket.  Three winners will be selected and will receive a prize.  These three students will also be invited to attend the press release presentation on Thursday Nov. 20 at 10:00 at the Wellesley Dental Group office in Wellesley.   Leadership Team: Did you know that Hardy has a Leadership Team?  Well, we do.  The Leadership Team is a group of teachers that meet with me twice a month to discuss various school topics.  Each grade level has a representative and there is also a representative from the special education and specialists teams.  The Leadership Team supports the school and me by sharing their voice and engaging in problem solving discussion on school matters.   Super Star Parents! The parents were super stars the other morning when the weather was horrible.  Thank you all so much for moving the cars following my lead and following the procedures established.  When we have bad weather days it is nice to know that everyone pulls for each other.   Internet Safety: The district received a grant for Katie Greer, acclaimed Internet/Technology Safety expert to provide seminars to students and parents.  She will be sharing a presentation to students across the district in grades 4 and 5, at the middle and high school.  Hardy grade 4 and 5 students will hear her presentation on Tuesday Nov. 4th. Parents will also have the opportunity to hear her speak on this topic Monday night, November 3rd from 7:00-8:30 in the WMS auditorium. This is a tremendous opportunity to have a district-wide discussion and common experience regarding the safe Internet & technology practices. Twitter: I have joined the twitter-tweet craze!  You can follow me at Charlene Cook @Hardyprincipal Have a happy and safe Halloween! Charlene Cook, Principal
