Hello Hardy families:
The day of play was a huge success!!! All of the students from grades K to 5 were putting their creativity, critical thinking, communication and collaboration skills to very good use. The Day of Play was started at Bates and this year a couple of other schools joined in as a way to foster the 4Cs in our classrooms: collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking.
We have officially hired a new music teacher and his name is Thomas Corcoran. He is early in his career and did a model lesson in Mr. B’s room. The students loved, loved, loved him and so did the hiring committee. I am looking forward to welcoming him to the Hardy community.
This is one of those bitter sweet things, after supporting the Hardy library and community for 12 years Karen Baldwin has accepted a position as a children’s librarian at the Weston Public Library starting July 1st. This is a wonderful opportunity for her. I am so grateful for time here, her knowledge of books, our students, the curriculum, her amazing work with our kindergarten students and the amazing work she did to make the library look beautiful for all to enjoy. Please join me in wishing Karen Baldwin the best of luck in her new position.
Students will be coming home with their progress reports on the last day of school, which is Tuesday June 21, and it is a half-day.
In August you will receive a letter from the school with your child’s classroom assignment. In early April I sent home a letter to let parents know that they could send in information they felt was important for me to know regarding their child’s placement. The deadline for parent responses was April 18th. It is important to remember that parents cannot request specific teachers and they cannot request specific students to be placed with or separated from their children. The teachers and other support staff spend a great deal of time making sure we have balanced groupings and that they have a child in their classroom that they are friends with based on in school observations.
We had two winners of the WOW writing contest: Taylor Read and Reese Griffin. We are so proud of them! There was a special presentation at the School Committee meeting Tuesday night to present all of the winners from the seven elementary schools with a certificate from the president of the World of Wellesley and the Superintendent Dr. Lussier.
Just a friendly reminder to keep the driveways of the residence on the Hardy Street open during pick up.
Thank you,
Charlene Coook
