Hello Hardy Families

This year we have 18 new families coming to Hardy- this is a lot compared to years past. We are looking forward to welcoming those families and seeing everyone else tomorrow morning for our first day of school. Remember students should report directly to their classrooms between 8:15 and 8:30. Parents are welcome to join them during that time. The PTO will have coffee and munchkins outside the gym doors at 8:30 a.m.

FLES, (foreign language in the elementary schools) is extended to grade 3 at Sprague and Hardy. The other elementary schools will have FLES in grades K to 2. The FLES classes will start on Monday September 26th.

RISE is at the Hardy core:

  • Respect
  • Include
  • Safety
  • Encourage

You will continue to hear more about RISE and we will have a RISE assembly at the end of the month.

We will have an assembly block this year which means that if we have a school based assembly it will take place at the same date and time: Mondays, 8:35 to 9:05. Some assemblies may extend beyond the 9:05 time. Parents will be notified about up and coming assemblies in the near future.

Students cannot be dropped off in the parking lot. All students must be dropped off on Hardy Road between 8:15 and 8:30. The doors are locked at 8:30. If you are tardy you must park in the loop in front of the building and walk your child into the office to sign them in late; there is not parent parking for drop off in the front parking lot. There will be a staff member on duty in the front parking lot to make sure that students are not dropped off in that location. This is for the safety of our children.

You may have noticed some changes on the playground. The town has been busy working to make sure our playground is safe and up to code. They have removed some equipment that was outdated and or broken and expanded the safety area around some of the equipment. The town has replaced two swing structures, installed two tire swings, installed new infant swings and has already ordered two replacement slides for the large structure, (installation expected within the next week or two). The town has also submitted a request for $150,000.00 in the budget this spring for a new large play structure. The current large structure is reaching the end of its life expectancy so it is time to begin the process of playground replacement. The PTO, school staff and the town will be working together on this exciting possibility in the near future. More information to come….

There is a new school district policy that states:

“In order to ensure the safety of students and staff, dogs are NOT allowed on school grounds during school hours, including arrival and dismissal times, as well as at school approved events and facility rentals. Service animals are allowed under the provisions of the Animals in the Classroom policy. Dogs are allowed on school property outside of these times subject to the provisions of Article 47 of the Town Bylaws. Violations of said bylaw are subject to a fine.”

I am looking forward to another great year at Hardy. My door is always open and I welcome hearing from families.
