Dear Hardy Families,

I hope everyone is off to a good start to December in spite of all the ongoing challenges tied to current events.

Tent Removal
As many families have already noticed, our tent has been removed. We learned that the tents cannot support snow in winter so they needed to be removed from all Wellesley Public School properties. We will continue to eat outside for snack/lunch as much as possible. Now we’ll just be sitting on open lawn or blacktop areas. On rainy/snowy days or days when the temperature (real feel) is below 40 degrees, we will be eating inside. Please continue to send in mats/towels/stools for your children to use when eating outside.

Crossing Guard Post at Fells Block
We have been notified by our School Resource Officer, Kathy Poirier that due to a shortage of crossing guards in the town, the crossing guard at the Fells Block post has been relocated to another location with more foot traffic. The town is looking to hire additional crossing guards. If you, or someone you know, is interested in serving as a crossing guard, please contact Officer Kathy Poirier.

School Council Update
At our School Council meeting this past week, we discussed Cultural Diversity Work. The teacher representatives on the Council (Neysa McNamara, Caryn Berkowitz and Kristi Thompson) and I will be doing cultural walkthroughs in the building to look for representation of diversity elements (could be posters, bulletin boards etc.) within our school. We will also be gathering information from teachers on ways diversity elements are being incorporated into the classroom environment. The Council plans to review the data that is collected after doing these cultural walkthroughs. Then we will consider next steps in terms of ways to help encourage greater representation of diversity elements within our school.

Have a great week!

Respectfully yours,
Grant Smith
