Dear Hardy families,

Highlights from the past week:

On Friday, we had a special visit from Hero the Husky, our mascot, who visited classrooms who earned 25 paws towards a class reward. The classes were celebrated and the students were very excited to meet this special mascot who will be making regular appearances at Hardy throughout the year.
To note: students had the opportunity to name this mascot, participating in a class vote earlier in the week. This served as a great way to give students a voice at Hardy!

News from the Hardy Library!

Welcome back to school and the Hardy Library!

The Hardy Library is looking for family volunteers to help each week in our library.  Our library circulates hundreds of books a week that need to be checked in, reshelved, and sometimes repaired in order to be made available for students.  There are also several other projects such as covering and labeling books, helping with shelf organization, assisting with book displays, helping with weeding, etc.

If you are interested in volunteering, please complete this Volunteer Form and I will respond to you regarding available times. We are so grateful for your interest and would welcome your help in the library!!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Hardy!

Hispanic Heritage month runs from September 15th to October 15th and Hardy is celebrating!  Students and staff will share and learn about language, culture, and some amazing Hispanic people.  Some of the things we’ll be doing:

  • Each morning our fifth grade students take turns helping with morning announcements. Over the next 4 weeks they will also share different facts about Hispanic culture and people.

  • In their Spanish classes, 5th graders will engage in a unit titled: I Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.  This unit involves studying Spanish speaking countries around the world.

  • During Library classes all students will be sharing biographies and fiction books vibrant with Hispanic culture and experiences.

If you’d like to share books in your home that celebrate Hispanic heritage, check out this resource highlighting some Hispanic authors & illustrators and their amazing stories.  Many of these books are found in our own Hardy Library (marked with red stars) or can be found in the public library.  You can also find links to the authors and illustrators to learn more about them.

We hope students and families will enjoy learning more about Hispanic culture and people!

Walker Pick Up Reminders

For parents meeting their children at dismissal as walkers, you are reminded to stand on the grassy area outside of the gym doors or in the open grassy area near the bike racks. Teachers doing dismissal will lead walkers up to the area by the picnic tables to dismiss students and we want to make sure this area is clear for dismissal. Thank you for your cooperation!

Late Arrival – Pick Up Patrol

If your child will be coming to school late please note in PickUp Patrol (Late Arrivals) whether or not they wish to order a school lunch. Lunch orders are given to Food Services at 9:15 a.m.

Looking forward to seeing many of you on Tuesday for Back to School Night!

Respectfully yours,
Grant Smith
Principal
