Hello Hardy
|
Highlights from the Past Week
On Friday, we had the first meeting of the fifth grade Student Council. All fifth graders will serve at some point this year as we cycle through groups of students who will identify an area for improvement for Hardy, develop a plan to address this identified area, and implement the plan. Last year students added current events to the morning announcements, worked with Mr. Guzzi to develop a plan for ball/equipment management at recess, and wrote letters to Chartwells to advocate for changes to the lunch menu.

From our School Nurse Mrs. Warmington
As we move through the school year together, our priority is keeping our classrooms vibrant, happy, and healthy spaces for all our students. With the change of seasons often bringing common colds, flu, and stomach bugs, we wanted to share a few quick tips and gentle reminders to help protect our school community. Healthy Habits at HomeSmall daily routines make a big difference in preventing the spread of illness:
- Handwashing: Wash hands with soap and water for 20 seconds.
- Cover Coughs & Sneezes: Use an elbow or tissue, then wash hands.
- Avoid Touching the Face: Keep hands away from eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Rest & Hydrate: Prioritize adequate sleep and hydration to support overall wellness.
When a Student Needs a Rest DayTo help students recover comfortably and keep the school community safe, please keep children home if they experience:
- A Fever: 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. Students should be fever-free for a full 24 hours (without medicine) before returning.
- Vomiting or Diarrhea: Please rest at home until completely symptom-free for 24 hours.
- A Severe Cough or Sore Throat: Or any persistent or uncomfortable symptoms that make it hard to focus.
- An Unexplained Rash: Needs to be evaluated by a healthcare professional before returning to school.
Returning to SchoolStudents may return once symptom-free for 24 hours and ready to participate in school activities. Please notify the health office if a student has a contagious condition so appropriate precautions can be taken.Thank you so much for your partnership in keeping our school community safe, welcoming, and thriving! Please feel free to reach out to the health office anytime with questions.
Warm regards, Ann Warmington, RN

Fencing Work on Hardy Playground
The town is adding fencing around the Hardy playground that will be connected to the existing fencing that wraps around the field. There will be gates to allow for pedestrians to continue to access the path that extends from the parking lot on Weston Road to the front plaza of the school. Work is scheduled to begin on Indigenous Peoples’ Day and will continue for a couple of weeks thereafter. Students will be able to continue to access the playground for recess during this work period (with staff making sure students stay away from areas where any work is being completed).

On Wednesday, Oct. 7, Hardy is taking part in International Walk & Roll to School Day. Students are encouraged to walk or roll to school. Students who get dropped off by car, bus, or van can also participate by doing a walking lap from the front plaza to the basketball court, around the gaga pit and back. Our Fitness & Health teacher, Mr. Guzzi, will be handing out stickers for students who participate.
