Just a reminder to Families of Students in Grades K-4:

It is that time of year to begin planning for the fall. Part of that process includes establishing classroom placements.  We take this process very seriously and spend a great deal of time and effort creating the best grouping possible for Hardy students.

As we assign students, each teacher and grade level cohort will consider academic ability, gender, special needs, behavior, friendships, students’ interests, students’ learning styles, cultural background and students’ motivation and interpersonal skills.

I share the placement responsibilities with grade level teachers, teachers of students with disabilities, ELL teachers, math and literacy specialists, specialists and our school psychologist. Critical in this process is the wealth of knowledge teachers have acquired during this school year about the conditions under which your child learns best in a school setting. We weigh many factors to determine the best placement for each child and strive to build compatible classes of similar sizes by considering gender, social maturity, special learning considerations, achievement levels and ethnicity.

As a school, we believe that healthy friendships enhance student learning. For this reason, we try to ensure that each child has a friend in the new class.  Keep in mind that good in-school friends are children who work well together and who support one another in a school setting. Such a friend may or may not be a student currently in your child’s class.

While we do not take requests for specific teachers you can share any significant concerns with me that you feel may impact your child’s classroom placement.  If you wish to share such information please send me an email stating these significant concerns no later than April 30th.

Thank you,

Charlene Cook, Principal                 Auction
