Social and Emotional Learning

Our work with students will always focus on core subject areas such as reading, writing, math, science, and social studies. This will never change.

Another piece of our daily work consists of social emotional learning, appropriate social interactions and engagement with peers, and helping students to successfully and effectively navigate conflict. This also will never change.

Recently, during a social conflict between students, a racial slur was used and overheard by a few students.
-
As a result, direct contact was made with the students and their parents that were involved in the incident.

Our continued work as a staff, and directly related to this incident, consists of regular and active communication with students about navigating social conflict, social emotional skills and strategies when dealing with social conflict, and prevention. In addition, our focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion is always at the forefront of our daily interactions and our work with students.

Sprague is a constant work-in-progress and recent incidents strengthen our commitment to social/emotional learning and skills required to successfully and appropriately engage in conflict resolution.
