Dear Sprague Families,

Thank you for a successful first week back after a well-deserved break!  March brings excitement as spring is around the corner and the sun seems to be more present.  Although the calendar and time seem to whiz by, we are grateful for the time that remains in the school year because we certainly have plenty to accomplish!

I decided to send this update today rather than the regular Saturday morning allowing people to read and digest the information with the purpose of asking any questions specifically regarding the approved Covid transition, which starts March 7th.  Please do not hesitate to contact Chris Babicz or me with any questions.  Thank you for your support!

Covid Transition Approved – Starts March 7th

  • Wednesday, March 2nd, the WPS School Committee approved the Covid transition

  • This transition officially begins on Monday, March 7th

  • Please see the attached specifics regarding this transition

  • WPS COVID-19 Transition 3.7.2022.docx.pdf

  • Thank you for your support!

Masks

  • As of Monday, March 7th, masks are optional for all students, staff, and any guests

  • Prior to and during the transition, announcements will be made on a daily basis stating that students/staff who choose to wear a mask, will be supported and not questioned and simultaneously, those that choose not to wear a mask will also be supported and not questioned

  • Please note that we are not in a position to ask students to, remind students to, or hold students accountable for wearing a mask, if that is an expectation coming from home.  I please ask that if wearing a mask is a family choice, which is fully supported, please continue that messaging at home

Lunch Planning – Transition Date

  • Sprague will officially make the transition from the gym and 6 feet distance back to the cafeteria, using tables, and no specific social distancing requirements

  • This transition will start on Monday, March 14th – this allows us the week of March 7th to meet with students to plan, set the expectations, and review the lunch procedures and protocols

  • The lunch expectations are as follows:

  • Although no social distancing requirements exist, we have set up the lunch tables such that it allows for natural distancing – students will be reminded to be mindful of distance during lunch times

  • Students will remain in assigned seats – this will be for the immediate transition allowing us to monitor and adjust, if needed – as the monitoring occurs, we will consider free seating by assigned class

  • No sharing of food at any time

  • Hands to themselves especially near food

  • Respectful and mindful of each others’ space

  • Masks optional and supported while no mask wearing is also a supported choice

Daily Covid Letter

  • During the height of the Omicron surge, Sprague sent a daily letter at the end of each day outlining the number of identified Covid cases that day

  • Please note that from here forward, we will only send a letter if there is an identified case(s) in the building

  • I am pleased to say that upon our first week back, there were no identified Covid cases

Book Fair

  • The Sprague Book Fair is back and this year we are partnering with a local company, Fantastic Book Fair!

  • Each class will attend the Book Fair on either March 8th, 9th or 10th. Feel free to come shop with your child during their time slot.  Please communicate with classroom teachers on their assigned day/time.

  • We will also be hosting a parent shopping experience Wednesday morning, March 9th from 7:30-8:30 am. Come by for a cup of coffee and take a look at this year’s top selections.
