Dear Parents/Guardians,

Hello.  It was sheer joy seeing many of you during last night’s Principal Coffee.  Sending warm thoughts to everyone.

Knowing it was not possible for all of our grade five families to be present last night, I wanted to share information pertinent to grade five students/families.

Hale Trip

  • Unfortunately this has been cancelled

  • An email was sent earlier this week regarding the refund process

  • Please contact Gwen Cheek, if needed  cheekg@wellesleyps.org

Puberty and Development Curriculum

  • Typically this curriculum is delivered during the spring of students’ grade five year

  • Due to the situation we are in, the Puberty and Development Curriculum will now be absorbed as part of the grade six curriculum

  • This curriculum will be delivered by the Health Department at Wellesley Middle School

End-of-Year Grade Five Events

  • Earlier this week, you received an email from Carrie Reepmeyer and Katie Sullivan, grade five parent coordinators, regarding a variety of ideas being put forth to honor and recognize our beloved fifth-graders

  • Please note that the grade five teachers and I are currently in the process of planning a virtual graduation – June 15th at 10:00 am – additional details to follow, of course

Grade Five to Six Transition

  • Typically grade six course selection would be taking place now

  • Course selection is a top priority for WMS for scheduling purposes

  • WMS is in the process of creating an active website that will allow for course selection to take place

  • The in-process website will consist of the following key components:

  1. Parent Orientation – online via the website

  2. Student Orientation – online via the website

  3. Purchase Process of iPads – prior to the start of school

  4. Course Selection

  • This website is a top priority, but it requires time to build and launch – this is an active work-in-progress by WMS and updates will be provided

  • Serious Concern Form

  1. Parent form allowing for parent input based on serious concerns

  2. This link was put out to parents in March

  3. This link will also be on the website for access

  • Reading/Math Workshop

  1. If students are being recommended for a Reading or Math Workshop, you will hear directly from the classroom teacher/special educator

  2. This workshop does not apply to all students

  3. It is based on teacher recommendation and on student need

Please remember the grade five team and I are here to support, guide, and reassure now and always.

Love,

Leigh
