Description: The Food Waste Reduction Club is a group hoping to improve the problem of immense food waste within the school and local community. The club has placed a designated bin outside of the cafeteria where students can place any unwanted, wrapped food items. These products are then brought to the Newton “freedge” (free fridge) which is open 24/7 to the public. Furthermore, there are food donation bins placed around the school with a list of the most wanted items. Students and teachers can bring unused and unopened food from home, which may have otherwise been thrown out, and put the items into these bins to be donated. The club members will help sort and bag this donated food which will then be brought to the Wellesley Food Pantry. The founders and leaders of this club hope to incorporate compost into the Wellesley High School lunch process at some point.
