Sport physicals are due in the Health Office by Friday, March 7.

All student-athletes are required to have a current physical examination on file in the Health Office before a student can try-out, practice, or participate in a sport as required by the MIAA guidelines.  Please upload a current physical to the SNAP portal for your student. SNAP portal information

The Athletic Office or individual coaches will not accept physical examination reports.

If your student has a current physical examination in the SNAP portal you do not need to provide another copy. Physical exams are valid for 13 months to the date.

If your student’s physical exam expires during the sports season, your student will no longer be able to participate until a new physical examination has been uploaded to SNAP.

PLEASE NOTE: Late submission of physicals delays the student from any athletic activity until all the registration requirements are completed.

Dear Members of the WPS Community,

Wellesley Public Schools is excited to debut the new, state-of-the-art lights on Hunnewell Field for WHS events this fall!

Please mark your calendars for several WHS sporting events to be held “under the lights” over the next few months. They include the first-ever home night games for our varsity soccer and field hockey teams, and the first-ever varsity football homecoming game on October 18.

A limited number of additional night games may be scheduled as needed during fall sports playoffs. Additional sporting events will be played under the lights in the spring.

Planned Night Games for Fall 2024

Boys’ Soccer:

Tuesday, September 10 vs. Brookline – 6pm

Thursday, October 24 vs. Natick – 6pm

Girls’ Soccer:

Tuesday, September 17 vs. Natick – 6pm

Thursday, October 17 vs. Brookline – 6pm

Field Hockey:

Wednesday, September 18 vs. Natick – 6pm

Wednesday, October 16 vs. Brookline – 6pm

Football:

Saturday, September 28 vs Walpole – 6pm

Friday, October 4 vs. Brookline – 6pm

Friday, October 18 vs. Newton North – 6pm (Homecoming)

Friday, November 1 vs. Weymouth – 4:30pm

Tickets for all night games, regardless of sport, will be $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students. Children under 6 will be admitted free.

Important Scheduling Information

The final regular-season football game vs. Weymouth that was scheduled for Oct. 31 has been moved to Nov. 1. The Halloween date was initially chosen because the Wellesley Public Schools are closed on Friday, Nov. 1 in honor of Diwali, a newly added holiday for the 2024-25 academic calendar.

Due to significant safety concerns around playing a night game on Halloween, and after consulting with numerous parties including Town departments, the teams believe the best option is to move the game to the evening of Nov. 1, with a 4:30 p.m. start time. With the football season cutoff date in place for that weekend, and the playoffs beginning the following week, Saturday was not a workable option.

It’s important to note that under no circumstances will any student be penalized for missing a practice or game to observe a religious or cultural holiday.

First Homecoming Game

After a proposal by the Class of 2025 class officers, the WHS administration is organizing the first-ever football homecoming weekend for October 18-19. In addition to the game on Friday night, a Community Day has been scheduled for October 19. More information on homecoming events will be shared with the WHS community at a later date.

Parking Information and Other Guidance

For night games, WHS will be following similar parking rules to those used for graduation. No parking will be available on Rice, State, Smith, Clifford, Forest, and Seaver streets. See this link for attendee guidance and an area parking map.

We hope you will attend one or more of these night games this fall. Go Raiders!

Sincerely,

Dr. David Lussier, Superintendent of Schools

Dr. Jamie Chisum, WHS Principal

John Brown, WPS Athletic Director
