Hello Hardy Families:

The winter concert was a beautiful event.  Magen Slesinger, Julie Verret, Mary Alice McCann and all of the children in the band, chorus and string orchestra provided an amazing performance.  It was wonderful to see so many families here to join in the celebration.

During Dr. Lussier’s first year he met with  parents, teachers, students and other members of the Wellesley community in order to gather information to create the Wellesley Public Schools Strategic Plan.  Part of that Strategic plan includes  the development and implementation of a K-12 World Language program.  I am happy to announce that Hardy along with Sprague will be involved in the initial pilot of this program for the elementary grades.  This work started last year and program development will continue this year with hopes to implement world languages at Hardy and Sprague in some format next year.  I will keep you updated as we progress.

The Superintendent has partnered with the Wellesley Education Foundation, WEF, to form four committees each with a focus that supports the district strategic plan in the areas below:
1. Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math (STEAM)
2. District Technology Plan
3. K-12 World Language Program
4. District Scorecard.

Each committee is comprised of community members,  1-2 WEF board members, and key members of the WPS staff. I am serving on the K-12 World Language Program committee and Karen Poole is serving on the District Technology Planning Committee.  These committees will meet roughly four times this year to provide recommendations to the superintendent regarding the four initiatives listed above.

This week I have visited just about all of the classroom reading the book, Snowflakes Fall by Patricia MacLachlan and Steven Kellogg.  One of my favorite things to do as a classroom teacher was to share a wonderful book with children so this has brought me a lot of joy.  One message from the story is that just like every snowflake is different from the next and beautiful, so too is every child different and beautiful.

I want to wish everyone a happy holiday season and safe travels.

Charlene Cook, Principal
