Hello Hardy Families: We are all saddened by the news of the tragedy that occurred Tuesday to a fellow Wellesley family. Our thoughts and prayers will remain with the family during this very difficult time. At Hardy, we are here to support your children should they need it. If you have any questions please contact the school. Officer Evan Rosenberg is a tremendous support to all of the Wellesley Public Schools. Officer Rosenberg serves on the Hardy School Council and provides a wonderful safety and community perspective. He also provides instruction to the grade 5 students across the district called “Pride” which focuses on good decision making with friends and peers. He frequently stops in all of the schools to say hello to staff and students. Wellesley is fortunate to have such a friendly and supportive resource officer supporting the district schools. Did you know…Hardy has safety procedures that address multiple emergency situations. We do not share the details of these procedures with parents and the greater community, however everyone who needs to be familiar with them has the opportunity to practice and discuss the drills. Some of these drills occur during the school day with children and some are practiced at faculty meetings. Officer Evan Rosenberg is always a great resource to us and he attends faculty meetings when these are reviewed. Outdoor recess: Just a reminder that the students go outside when the temperature is at or above 21 degrees inclusive of wind chill. The children also go out when it is snowing; too much fun to miss. Boots and snow plants highly recommended. Progress reports will be coming home in back packs Friday, January 30th. If you have questions about information on the progress reports contact your child’s teacher. There should not be any surprises but you may still want to follow up with your child’s teacher. Technology: We will be purchasing 10 iPads that will be used for grade 4 this year. Our goal is to have at least one complete class set for grade 4 students next year and this is a step in that direction. Safety: To maintain a safe school environment at all times we ask that parents and guests always check in at the office with Janet before proceeding to their child’s classroom. Janet will call the teacher before you go to their classroom or office. If you need to leave a note or other type of written communication with a teacher be sure to leave it in the main office. Janet will make sure the teacher receives it promptly. Morning drop off: If you drop your child off later than 8:30 you need to park in the parking lot and walk your child into the main office. Children cannot be walking through the parking lot in the morning or after school for safety reasons. MCAS Schedule: I know many families like to plan ahead so we have set the MCAS Schedule for this spring, 2015: ELA Grade 3: ELA: Tuesday, March 24 and Thursday, March 26 Grade 4: Long Comp: Tuesday, March 24 ELA: Thursday, March 26 and Monday, March 30 Grade 5: ELA: Monday, March 23 and Friday, March 27 Math Grade 3: Tuesday, May 12 and Thursday, May 14 Grade 4: Tuesday, May 5 and Thursday, May 14 Grade 5: Monday, May 4 and Thursday, May 7 Science Grade 5: Tuesday, May 12 and Friday, May 15
