Dear Hardy families,
Highlight from the past week:
*On Friday, we had our first all-school community meeting led by our 5th graders. Students were reminded about the meaning of R.I.S.E. and they learned about our new school adjustment counselor Mrs. McMenamy, who was the mystery staff member. Kudos to our fifth graders for their efforts leading this program!
*On Friday, we also had our first School Spirit Day. It was great to see students in their Husky and Hawks gear.
School Council Parent Representatives
Thank you for voting in the School Council parent representative election. This year the parent representatives will include Marie Han, Adam Meyers, Matt Werger and Joe Schott. A special thanks goes out to each of these parents for their willingness to serve in this way!
CASEL competencies
This year we are planning to relaunch a focus on the CASEL competencies to help support social-emotional skill development. CASEL is an acronym that stands for Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning. There are five competencies that are part of the CASEL framework which include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. As part of our All School Community Meetings each month, we will have a focus on these competencies. Also in classrooms, teachers will read books and ask discussion questions that are designed to promote understanding about these focus areas. Our hope is that through our school-wide emphasis on CASEL, students will develop healthy social and emotional skills.
Have a great week!
Respectfully yours,
Grant Smith
