Dear Sprague Community, It’s Teacher Appreciation Week! I encourage you to take a few moments to write a note of thanks to a Sprague teacher. Teachers truly feel valued when they receive such notes because they are sincerely here to make a difference in your children’s lives. I also encourage you to have your child write to his or her teacher.  This is one of those gifts that doesn’t cost a thing, but means so much to the person who receives it. Hats for Helping Nepal We collected $1192 as of Friday. We are continuing to collect change in our containers until Wednesday, May 6th.  Thank you for your generosity! Check out the attached photo! Food Drive We will have a Food Drive to benefit the Wellesley Food Pantry during the week of May 18th. We will send home requested items for each grade level next week. Our fifth graders will be at car line to accept donations each morning. World Language As you know, Sprague will be a pilot school for the new World Language program in the elementary schools in Wellesley. Hardy will be other pilot site. Students will participate in foreign language instruction in grades K-2 next year. We are working to develop curriculum, hire teachers, and plan for the implementation. We anticipate that instruction would begin in November 2015. Language expert, Helena Curtain, will be consulting with us. She will give a presentation for parents on May 18th at 7 p.m. The flyer for this event is attached. We will also plan a daytime talk for parents on either May 18th or 19th while Helena is in town in case you can’t make the evening event. School Mascot You may or may not have noticed that Sprague School does not have a mascot. We have asked students to think about a good mascot for our school. Students in many classes have written persuasive letters with suggestions and reasons for their suggestion. We will plan to take a vote once we can review all the wonderfully creative ideas that have been submitted. I invite interested students who did not have the chance to write about a mascot in school to do so at home and submit their letter to me. Most students in grades K-3 have written such letters in class. This is entirely optional for older students. If your child would like to write a persuasive letter suggesting a mascot for Sprague, please have him/her do so by May 26th.  If you plan to return a placement form, please be sure to do so by May 8th. Thank you.
