Dear Sprague Community I hope you are enjoying the summer weather and having fun family time! I also hope your children are finding time to read over the summer. Captain Book visited Sprague with some friends on the last day of school to encourage students to read. She was disappointed that her boat would need repairs and that she wouldn’t be able to take a summer voyage. Her friends reminded her that reading is like traveling and learning too! Please see the link below for a short video in ‘trailer’ format from that presentation. Please share it with your children and remind them that Captain Book wanted them to “get hooked on a good book.” Thank you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sss6U1JS_EQ I also wanted to pass along some dates courtesy of our very dedicated PTO president, Elaine Marten. Lastly, the Wellesley Green Schools Committee Chairs Sue Morris, Jess Stanton, and Phyllis Theerman, have asked us to share the following with parents as they consider transportation to and from school: Parents, We hope this email finds you and your family having a lovely summer. It seems as if all those snow days and snowy rides to school were simply a dream. No one knows what weather will happen upon us this upcoming school year, but thinking ahead and planning seems to be a good idea. Many of you filled out the transportation survey sent out by the School Administration last winter. This data, compiled by Babson/Olin/Wellesley College students, enabled the district to get a better understanding of how families get to and from school. The research states that student transportation accounts for 4663 cars a day in Wellesley. Most of us realize that as we see the car lines, struggle for parking, sit in traffic, and worry about health and safety of our children. Specifically, the survey reports that: 36% drive to school 23% take the bus 18% walk 16% carpool 4% bike 3% other (combination of the above) Thus, as we enjoy our summer holidays, we would encourage you to consider making plans to take the bus, carpool, walk or bike to school this year. For more information on bus transportation – only $2.89 per student a day- please contact the Transportation Coordinator at 781-446-6210 x 5614. There are still a few spots open for busing, especially in the elementary schools. Sincerely, Wellesley Green Schools Committee
