Dear Sprague Community,
Happy Valentine’s Day!
It is a little hectic after a snow day, but we are glad to be back at school! Please be sure your children have snow pants, boots, jackets, etc for recess play this week and any time it is snowy. We go out daily unless it is rainy, snowy, or the temperature or wind chill is below 20 degrees. Please also label items with your child’s name so that we may be able to return lost items. We are also still accepting donations of gently used snow pants as back ups for the nurse’s office.
Our irreplaceable Mrs. Becker will be out of town for a few weeks. This means things in our office may feel just a bit different. Please be sure to introduce yourself to our substitutes Betty and Marie if you are in the building. Cheryl Moy will be in each day on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00-2:00 as well. We will continue to follow our usual procedures, but things may take just a bit longer at first. We thank you in advance for your understanding and patience.
When the weather is cold and snowy, the traffic always gets heavier at Sprague, so please allow extra time in the morning so students arrive on time by 8:30 each day.
We will begin our new and improved recycling efforts in the Sprague cafeteria after the February vacation week. Students will learn some new routines like emptying milk cartons to lesson the weight of our waste and recycling milk containers and clean cafeteria trays. We will be looking for volunteers to help out at lunchtime after the vacation. If you are available, please let me know.
If you are new to Sprague, you may be wondering the A-Catemy Awards are! We celebrate reading in a number of ways at Sprague and use the combination of Dr. Seuss’ birthday (March 2) and the real Academy Awards (Oscars) for our own award ceremony where books are recognized by category. Students and teachers are invited to dress up. We even have a red carpet! We are always looking for Mom-arazzi or paparazzi to take pictures on our red carpet too! The fun begins when teachers come up to present the awards to the most popular books in categories like, ‘favorite series’ or ‘best MCBA book.’ This year the A-Catemy Awards will take place on Friday, March 3 at 2:15 PM.

March 21: Parent Talk on Technology and Kids at 7 PM (WMS is the likely location)
