Dear Sprague Community,

March seems to be coming in like a lamb, but I hear the weather is due to change back to more seasonal temperatures soon.

Our cafeteria became significantly ‘greener’ this week with the recycling of milk containers and clean cafeteria trays. Monday was the first day of this initiative and we ended up with only 4 bags of trash rather than the usual 6. We served pasta with sauce on Monday, so were unable to recycle the sauce-covered lunch trays. On Tuesday, we were able to recycle the lunch trays and reduced our trash to just 2 bags! What a difference it makes to both recycle and take the liquid out of the trash. Students are learning a new clean up routine in which they carefully empty unused milk and juice from cartons into a bucket and recycle items like cartons, plastic spoons, straws, cups, water bottles and cans. The last stop is the trash can! Special thanks go to Michelle Foster and Robin Weschler for helping out in the cafeteria this week with our new routines!

Our celebration of reading and books, the A-Catemy Awards, takes place in an assembly format on Friday afternoon at 2:15 pm. All students are encouraged to wear their ‘red carpet’ attire and dress up for the event. Simple things like sunglasses and feather boas can dress up an ordinary outfit or students can really dress up. Teachers will be decked out in their glitzy finery! At the assembly, we will honor an author, Elizabeth Suneby, as well as give out ‘favorite’ book awards by category! Elizabeth Suneby wrote “Razia’s Ray of Hope,” based on the true story of a girl in Afghanistan and how she convinces the men in her family to allow her to go to school. Every book purchased helps send a girl to school. We look forward to a fun celebration and always welcome paparazzi and ‘momarazzi’ who come to take photos on the red carpet!

We have an additional after school offering for Volleyball this month. Other spring session offerings will be posted soon, but won’t begin until April 26th.
