Dear Sprague Community,

The Multicultural Night on Thursday was a true celebration of our school’s diversity! It was so wonderful to see students share about their cultural heritage. We added a ‘language share’ this year. Many thanks to many people, most especially to Elaine Marten for her incredible vision and planning. The event had a real ‘world market’ feel to it. The Wellesley Jazz Ensemble performed as well as the Brazilian Drumming Group, “Grooversity.” We even had a traditional Chinese Lion Dance and traditional Indian dancing by our very own Shreya Sharma in grade 4. See the Pulse for more details.

MCAS testing begins this Friday for students in grade 5 and continues after the school vacation week for students in grades 4 and 3. Please make every effort for your child to arrive on time and rested on testing days if you have a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grader.

Our school nurses have attached an important letter regarding Epi-Pen recalls. Please read the letter.

Our Artist in Residence is here this week in the Art room. Students are using reclaimed pencils to create quilt squares that will be used to create a wooden school quilt. It is a unique and fun opportunity for creativity and teamwork. Many thanks to Jen Stabnick, Annie Newman, and the many parents who have both donated pencils and offered to cut them for us. I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.

Our Friday Art teacher, Sara Kess had her baby this weekend! We congratulate Sara and her husband on the birth of their daughter Luna. Amanda Hockensmith will fill in for Sara in the Art Room on Fridays until the end of the school year. Amanda completed her elementary education licensure at Shady Hill School Teaching Training, and also holds a K-8 Art Teaching Certificate. She most recently was a long term art substitute at Schofield and Upham Elementary Schools and has taught art at both private and public schools.
