Dear Sprague Community,

Have you ever hesitated before writing to people when you know how they will likely react to reading the news you have to share? This is such a time for me. Changes are inevitable in life and we do adjust to both good and challenging changes. In this case, the change is bittersweet and involves news about two well loved staff members moving on the the next steps in their lives.

Our incredible Literacy Specialist, Christina Cooney, has been taking classes to earn her licensure as an elementary principal. It will not be a surprise to anyone who knows Christina to hear that another school district has quickly recognized her many talents and offered her a position as principal for next year. Christina will take this new role in Medway beginning July 1, 2017.

Our warm, kind, and efficient school secretary Lennie Becker has also told us of her intention to retire and move on to next steps. She embraced the notion of Growth Mindset, and after 15 years as the Sprague secretary, and 28 years total working in the Wellesley Public Schools, Lennie is retiring and building a new home in Plymouth, MA. In typical Lennie Becker fashion, she will be here with us until the end of July to ensure that we are all set to start a new school year in the fall.

We will miss both of these fine women terribly and also wish them all the best as they move on the next phases in their lives.

In news that is less bittersweet, our Pencil Quilt has been put together and now hangs proudly in our library. Again, many thanks to our art teacher Jen Stabnick, artist in residence Laura Cheney, PTO Creative Arts Committee, and parent Bramwell Young, who donated his time and expertise to hang the 5 foot by 5 foot wooden Pencil Quilt. See pictures below.
