Dear Sprague Community—May 23, 2017

Many thanks to all who donated to the Food Drive last week! We loaded up 5 cars with food to deliver on Monday morning!

Memorial Day

On Friday morning, you will see some boys from Cub Scout Pack 140 handing out American Flags in recognition of Memorial Day on Monday. Many thanks to parent, Ana Alexander for organizing.

Message from Sprague School Council

“The Sprague School Council had a discussion about safety procedures after last week’s tragic accident in Wellesley. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind our school community about a few things that can be done on a regular basis to promote a safe environment.

As the weather gets warmer, we know more students walk and bike to school. we’d like to offer a few reminders for children and adults about safe arrival and dismissal.

If your child walks or bikes, be sure he or she walks on the sidewalk, crosses at marked cross walks, and stays with adults if possible. It is always a good idea to be sure to make eye contact with a driver before crossing in front of the vehicle. Students riding bikes must wear a helmet and should lock bikes left in our bike racks. Please remind your child to listen to all crossing guards before crossing. If you park in our lot, please use a marked space. When cars are left in unmarked areas, they become a hazard and limit the visibility of walkers and drivers.

Walkers, riders, and drivers can all try their best to stay aware of their surroundings. If you park in our lot and walk children to the playground, please be sure they stay near you when crossing.

If you use our carline, please be sure to drop students off next to the curb. Thank you.”

Babies, babies, babies…

In case you haven’t heard, Sprague teachers have 3 new babies! Mr. Craig and his wife welcomed their first child, Elliot. Ms. Rogers and her husband welcomed their first, Evelyn. And most recently, Mrs. Herald and her husband welcomed their second child, Madelyn. We are so happy for our growing staff families!

Professional Learning

As we wind down, I’d like to share some of the great work your children’s teachers have done this year. We work in teams both on grade level teams and also on professional learning teams that tackle an area of curriculum or some other new professional learning. As a district and as a school, we have made commitments to social/emotional learning, developing 21st century skills, and providing opportunities for creativity in our schools. Sprague teachers have worked collaboratively to improve instruction in literacy and math by planning lessons together, observing one another teach, and finding ways to support student discussions in the classroom. When students are talking, they are learning. Sprague teachers have learned about ways to promote mindfulness, creativity, a growth mindset, and purposeful play in school as well. I know you are as proud as I am to the commitment to teaching and learning among our professional staff.
