Dear Sprague Community,

Happy Halloween! It was such fun to see all the costumes this morning and equally fun to see so many parents/spectators. I am including 2 photos of some teachers who were dressed as “You Cubians.” Students knew what they were, but I imagine some parents may not have realized that they were actually the mathematicians from the Youcubed videos students saw promoting a growth mindset in mathematics!

Candy Drive

We will once again be collecting UNICEF boxes for donation and candy to donate to troops serving overseas through the Wellesley Dental Group Candy Drive. We will collect candy that students wish to donate for about one week starting on Nov. 1. In the past, we have also asked for letters to troops to brighten their spirits. We offer a few guidelines if your child writes a letter at home. Children should not identify their last name or address in the letter. Children can write about anything, but if they need suggestions, we suggest:  sports teams, the weather, activities, pets, and hobbies. They can ask questions but should not expect to receive a letter in return.  Writing a letter or drawing a picture is a small thing that children can do that may very well make a big difference to someone who is away from home. We will collect the letters and candy until Nov. 7th. It will be delivered to Wellesley Dental Group on Nov. 8.

MCAS Parent Reports

Parents of students currently in 4th and 5th grade will receive Next Generation MCAS score reports in the mail later this week. I plan to offer a presentation about Next Generation MCAS and how it differs from the previous ‘Legacy’ version of MCAS at the PTO meeting on Nov. 9 at 9:00 a.m. in the cafeteria.

Re-take Day

Thursday, Nov. 2 is Picture Re-Take Day for any students who were absent or whose parents do not wish to keep the original photos. If it is a re-take, please return the unwanted photos on Nov. 2.

Conferences

Parent-Teacher Conferences begin this week. I am sure most of you have signed up for a time to meet with your child’s teacher. We value this time and look forward to sharing progress and information about your child’s education with you. As educators, we partner with you to develop academic and social skills in children and value the opportunity to communicate directly with you. Written Progress Reports will be sent home twice a year—in January and June.

Dates to remember:

Nov. 1, 7, 8: Parent Conferences (all are 12:00 dismissal days, W, T, W)
