Dear Sprague Community,
It is a busy week with Valentine’s Day! Students just love to give and receive those cute Valentine cards. It is a fun time to be friendly and recognize one another with cards and kindness. We have a Kindness wall posted in the atrium and students have shared acts of kindness on post it notes. We talked about this at the School Gathering last week and watched Kid President’s “Spread Good” video. World Kindness Day is actually February 17th, so surprise someone you don’t know with a little kindness that day!
Speaking of kindness, our parking lot is a place that needs a little love sometimes. I know it is crowded and slow going sometimes, but PLEASE be sure to NEVER park in our Handicapped Space unless you have a person with you who requires it. Please be respectful of the AUCTION WINNER space as well. The Auction Winner space is clearly marked and is on the right side of the parking lot as you turn in. It is reserved for the winner at all times of the day. Please do not park there even if you are in a hurry. One last reminder about safety at drop off—please drop off and pick up in our parking lot or carline ONLY. Students should never be dropped off or picked up on School St. or on Oak St. Thank you.
Our ELL teacher, Kate Wilson, had her baby last weekend. Congratulations to the Wilsons on the birth of son, Graham!
Enrichment Offerings at Sprague
Spring Enrichment Class offerings are attached. The registration is through the Recreation Dept. and begins on Feb. 26th.
A-Catemy Awards
For families new to Sprague, I’d like to explain our annual celebration of great books called the A-Catemy Awards. It will take place on March 1stat 9:00 AM. Students vote for favorite books within categories, much like the Academy Awards (or the Oscars). It is always as close to Dr. Seuss’ birthday as possible (March 2) as that is National Read Across America Day—thus the name A-Catemy Awards (like Cat in the Hat). Students are invited to dress in fancy clothes and walk our ‘red carpet.’ Parents are invited to come take pictures like ‘paparazzi,’ or ‘mama-razzi.’
It’s a fun event, so mark your calendar if you’d like to join us!
Open House
Our annual Open House day is Friday, March 22 from 8:00 AM-9:30 AM. As it is an open house, parents can come at any time during the time window and do not need to stay for the entire hour and half. Classrooms will have student work to share. Children are the guides on this day. They will show their families around the school and share work. It is not a day for individual parent conferences. Your child’s teacher will send a sign up for this. Parent Conferences are scheduled for March 27, April 2, and April 3 between 12:40 and 3:00 PM.
