Dear Sprague Community,

It was so great to see so many families on Friday at our Open House. The students sounded great singing, “Count on Me.” I hope you got to see evidence of your child’s progress and also enjoyed our Art Show!

The Teacher/Parent Basketball team lost a ‘nail-biter’ to the 5th graders last Wednesday. The score was 74-72. Good sportsmanship was on display as well as a terrific halftime show by the 5th graders. We really saw the ‘T’ in HEART as students had fun playing together against the adults.

Please note that Peer Mentoring program is full.

Standards Based Report Card Committee

There are district committees working on re-writing our written progress reports to better match grade level standards and instructional practices. These new progress reports will be introduced next year (2019-2020). Teachers at all grade levels are working collaboratively and will be seeking feedback from a parent focus group this week. Stay tuned…

Zombie Math Challenge before STEM Expo

Sprague parent John Covey has been working to support the Wellesley STEM Expo, which will take place on Saturday, April 6th. Please read the message below from John:

The STEM Expo is coming soon, and Wellesley students have a virtual, web-based math challenge to complete before the Expo launches!  Winners will be recognized and awarded with prizes at the Expo.

Visit this webpage for your student to compete in the challenge:

https://www.wellesleyeducationfoundation.org/computational-challenge

Save your squad from the spread of a terrible zombie virus that is infecting the school!  Answer up to 45 problems of increasingly complex questions that will eventually push your critical thinking and analytical skills in order to survive, no matter what grade you are in!  (No violence is depicted.  Observing the effects of vaccines, masks, quarantines, and infection probabilities are the takeaways from this challenge.)

All answers will be evaluated by judges before winners are decided, so be sure to explain your answers and reasoning, as there are many “right” answers to the challenge!  Good luck!

 Community Collections

See information below about 2 community service projects that Wellesley students are coordinating. They have asked each school to put out a collection box. We will be collecting gently used baseball equipment for one project and gently used clothing for Cradles to Crayons for the other. Here is the message regarding Cradles to Crayons:

“Hi I’m Tyler Lack and I’m an 8th grader at WMS. I’m representing Wellesley in Project 351 which is a community service project. This Spring we are working to collect gently used clothing for children in need (sizes 0-20). This drive is supporting Cradles to Crayons and a donation box will be set up at Sprague for the week of March 25 through April 5th. If you have anything to contribute to this drive that would be fantastic! Thank you for all your support”.
