~Today is Tuesday February 1, 2022
~Day 4
This year marks the 46th anniversary of the annual commemoration of Black History Month in the U.S. The concept originated in 1915, as a response to the lack of information on the accomplishments of Black people available to the public. The month of February is a time to honor the contributions and legacy of African Americans across U.S. History and Society.
This year’s theme is contributions of Black Americans in the sciences and technology for Health & Wellness. To celebrate, there will be profiles of Black scientists, engineers, and inventors in Advisory throughout the month. In addition, we will be asking trivia questions. Our first question will be tomorrow in the morning announcements. Starting next week it will be Tuesday and Thursday for the rest of the month. If you know the answer, or would like to take a guess, come down to the office to submit your answer. A winner will be drawn for those that are correct, and a small prize will be rewarded.
Are you curious about what some people in our WMS community will be celebrating today? Today begins the holiday of Lunar New Year and welcomes the Year of the Tiger.
Lunar New Year is the most celebrated holiday in China, Korea and east, and south east Asian countries. The holiday includes family-centered activities such as having a New Years Eve Feast, staying up on New Years Eve, visiting family and friends, eating special foods, and paying respect to ancestors. In some countries the celebration lasts for 2 weeks and ends on the 15th day of the New Year.
There are students at WMS who will be observing this holiday. We wish all people at WMS observing this holiday, Happy New Year!
As a reminder there will be no homework given tonight and no tests or quizzes to be taken on Wednesday.
~There will be an intramural activity fair today at 2:30pm in gym B. PLEASE BRING YOUR IPAD TO SIGN UP. You need to sign up to participate. If you have any questions please reach out to Mr Johnson.
~Art for All is canceled today.
Tomorrow Wednesday February 2nd is an early release day. Teachers will be in meetings so they will be unavailable to meet with students.
Have a Great Day Everyone!
