Attention 8th grade students: Today is the last day to sign up if you would like to be a tour guide for Grade 5 visits by elementary school students in May. Please come to the Main Office and fill out a form to be entered into a drawing. Names will be picked the week we return from April break.
We know that everyone is excited about the upcoming break. Please remember that today is still a school day and to act accordingly. Specifically, please pass quietly between periods and without running in the halls.
Are you curious about what some people in our WMS community will be celebrating over the break? Today is the New Year in South East Asia, Sunday, April 16th is the Eastern Orthodox Christian holiday of Easter, and the Muslim holiday of Eid al Fitr is expected to begin on April 21st. New Year in South East Asia is celebrated based on the astrological event of the sun beginning its northward journey. Traditional dance, singing, and cultural shows are performed together during the festival. For Eastern Orthodox Christians, Easter is on the first Sunday after the first full moon, after the Vernal Equinox. It celebrates the resurrection of Jesus after having died by crucifixion. It is the most important holiday in Eastern Orthodoxy as it notes the moment Jesus’ divinity was confirmed as he rose from the dead. Eid is the end of the month-long fasting of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr translates from Arabic as the “festival of breaking the fast”and is when the entire Muslim community comes together to celebrate the completion of this annual act of devotion. Muslims celebrate Eid by going to a mosque for prayer, spending time with friends and family, exchanging gifts, and feasting. There are students at WMS who will be celebrating these holidays during the break. We wish all people at WMS observing these holidays: “Happy New Year!”, “Happy Eastern” and “Eid Mubarak.”
