It’s time for our annual grade 5 visits to WMS and we need tour guides! If you are an 8th grader and would like to be a guide and show our incoming 6th graders WMS, then come down to the main office any time between now and Thursday April 11th and fill out an interest slip. Depending on the number of entries, a lottery may happen to select the guides.
Are you curious about what some people in our WMS community will be celebrating this evening? This evening begins the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr. Eid is the end of the month-long fasting of Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr translates from Arabic as the “festival of breaking the fast”and is when the entire Muslim community comes together to celebrate the completion of this annual act of devotion. Muslims celebrate Eid by going to a mosque for prayer, spending time with friends and family, exchanging gifts and feasting. There are students at WMS who will be celebrating Eid. We wish all people at WMS observing this holiday “Eid Mubarak.”
This year’s Day of Silence has been scheduled for Thursday, April 11th. WMS’ Gender & Sexuality Alliance sponsors the Day of Silence, a day to recognize the silencing of the LGBTQ community in our society. Students who choose to participate remain silent all day to show their support. Beginning Monday, students can sign up at lunch outside the cafeteria or in the main office.
Have a good day everyone!
