Last night, the Wellesley Education Foundation held its 35th Annual Spelling Bee. Community businesses, organizations, clubs, colleges, student groups, school staff and PTOs all competed for the coveted trophy. Hosted by sportscaster Mike Dowling, the WEF Spelling Bee raised over $50,000 with the objective of supporting the Wellesley Public Schools. One competition was the Spirit Award based on costumes, enthusiasm and creativity. This year’s winner were our WMS teachers, Ms. Sciera, Ms. Kelleher and Ms. Trofatter who dressed up as “Queen Bees.” In particular, Ms. Sciera’s Freddy Mercury costume really screamed, “we will rock you,” and “we are the champions.” Congratulations, teachers! And if that wasn’t enough, for the first time in 35 years, our eighth grade team won last night’s Spelling Bee beating out 35 teams to win the night. Spellers: Aniruddh Arun, Eafan Sher and Tyler Pollock spelled their way to victory with the winning word “nucivorous.” Congratulations to our eighth grade winners. We appreciate you bringing this recognition to the middle school. We are so very proud of you!
Have a good day everyone!
