Congratulations to the band, orchestra, and chorus students that auditioned at the Junior District Festival this weekend.  The audition process was very challenging and we’re very proud of your effort and musicianship.

This week is National School Counselor Week which is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the unique contributions of school counselors! Thank you to all members of our WMS counseling department for the work that you do in supporting students, staff, and families:  Ms. Andre, Ms. Caveney, Mr. Craft, Ms. D’Allesandro, Ms. Dufour, Mr. Matthews, Ms. Mahoney, and Ms. Rogers!

Our Chinese language classes at WMS would like to invite all students and staff to celebrate the Lunar New Year, TOMORROW, TUESDAY FEBRUARY 4th, from 2:30 – 3:30p in the Cafeteria! The Lunar New Year (or Spring Festival) is one of the most important holidays in many Asian cultures, marking the end of winter and the beginning of spring. Lunar New Year is celebrated by over 2 billion people in many countries around the world, including China, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, Australia, the US and more. This year, we welcome the Year of the Snake. The Snake is the sixth of 12 animals in the Chinese Zodiac and represents intelligence, elegance, charm, and wisdom. The event will feature delicious dumplings and treats. Students and staff can engage with arts and crafts activities, and games, including how to play with a yo-yo from WMS students. You can also win prizes and receive red envelopes by participating. Finally, don’t miss live performances of a Lion Dance, Kung Fu, and musical performances from our current and former WMS students!  We wish everyone a happy and prosperous Year of the Snake!

Black History Month, also known as African American History Month, takes place every February to honor the accomplishments of Black people in the United States and the important roles they have played in the past and the present. Starting today, WMS will be asking daily trivia questions as we learn more about Black History month. Our first question is: When did the celebration of Black History Month begin?  If you think you know the answer, come down to the main office to submit your entry. Tomorrow, we will reveal the answer and ask a new question.

The bus to Boston will leave at 3:30 today.  The late bus in Wellesley also leaves at 3:30. All students need to listen for the PA announcement for their departure from WMS.

Have a good day everyone!
