Yesterday’s Black History Month trivia answer is Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was the most famous conductor on the Underground Railroad. Today we have a Friday Fun Fact: Nine African-American students, later named the Little Rock 9, broke segregation barriers by enrolling in Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1957. Initially, the students were prevented from entering the high school, as enforced by the Arkansas State National Guard. By the orders of President Eisenhower, the US National Guard troops were ordered to protect the students and allow them to enter the school. This event marks one of the first successful attempts of desegregation as supported by the federal government. Stay tuned next week for more trivia questions and prizes.
The WMS Science Olympiad will be competing in the Harvard Invitational this weekend. We wish all members of the Science Olympiad Team the best of luck!
Spirit Week Starts Monday! Monday is Boston Sports Day: wear something from your favorite Boston sports team (Patriots, Red Sox, Revolution, Bruins). The more students and staff that participate in Spirit Week, the more fun it will be!
There will be no 3:30 pm bus to Boston today. All students riding to Boston will be taking the 2:30 pm bus. The late bus in Wellesley will leave at 3:30 pm.
Have a good day everyone!
Please note that the daily announcements are sometimes subject to change during the school day. When this happens the announcements will be updated on the website and on the video screen in the WMS lobby, but a new email will not be sent.
