Are you curious about what some people in our WMS community will be celebrating starting this evening? This evening begins the Jewish holiday of Passover. Passover commemorates the Jewish peoples’ liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt and their freedom as a nation under the leadership of Moses that occurred about 1300 or 1400 BCE. It is a joyous holiday celebrated for either 7 or 8 days. During this time, Jews gather to tell the story of the Exodus (leaving of Egypt) and share a meal, called a Seder, where most items eaten are symbolic of some occurrence in the Passover story. There are guidelines that many Jews follow for what may and may not be eaten during the holiday, which includes the eating of matzah (unleavened bread) instead of bread. Thinking about and vowing to help people who are currently living with injustice is a part of many Jews’ Passover celebrations. We wish all people at WMS observing this holiday, a “happy Passover,” or “Chag Sameach.”
Today is an Early Release Day. Teachers will be in department meetings so all students must leave the building at the 11:21 dismissal. There will be no late buses to Boston or Wellesley. All students who are going into town today, please remember that you are representing yourself, your families, neighborhoods, and our school. You have been given the privilege of independence and you must show that you can manage it. Please be respectful to each other as well as to store employees, other shoppers, and clean up after yourselves, especially after you eat.
The Spirit Wear Store will be open at the Donizetti entrance from 11:20 until noon today.
Have a good day everyone!
Please note that the daily announcements are sometimes subject to change during the school day. When this happens the announcements will be updated on the website and on the video screen in the WMS lobby, but a new email will not be sent.
