The National Latin Exam was administered in March all across the country, and WMS participated.  Half of the Latin scholars who took the exam earned awards for scoring higher than the national average, and they are to be congratulated!  Certificates were awarded to Luke Jin and Hugo Shaw in grade 8, and Athena Wang, Yixi Lin, and Henry Altenbach in grade 7.   Receiving MEDALS for their achievement were Yixi Lin with a silver medal, and Athena Wang with a gold.   Bene factum, omnes! (phonetic pronunciation: Ben-eh fact-oohm, om-nace!)

Are you curious about what some people in our WMS community will be celebrating starting this evening?  Tonight begins the Jewish holiday of Passover. Passover commemorates the Jewish people’s liberation from slavery in ancient Egypt and their freedom as a nation under the leadership of Moses that occurred about 1300 or 1400 BCE. It is a joyous holiday celebrated for either 7 or 8 days. During this time, Jews gather to tell the story of the Exodus (leaving of Egypt) and share a meal, called a Seder, where most items eaten are symbolic of some occurrence in the Passover story. There are guidelines that many Jews follow for what may and may not be eaten during the holiday, which includes the eating of matzah (unleavened bread) instead of bread. Thinking about and vowing to help people who are currently living with injustice is a part of many Jews’ Passover celebrations. There are students at WMS who will be observing Passover this week.  We wish all people at WMS observing this holiday, a “happy Passover,” or “Chag Sameach.”

Have a good day everyone!
