Thank you to everyone who participated in the Activities Fair. It was a great success! If you were not able to attend, you can still join any club by clicking on the QR code on the Club Board outside the cafeteria until Friday, October 2nd. You will also find information on all clubs being offered. Stop by the Main Office if you need help. Clubs will begin next Monday, October 5th.
To all teachers and students, please be aware that we are seeing an increase in students not making it to class on time throughout the day. There are students still in the hallways when the bell rings. Students, please be reminded that you need to be in classrooms when the bell rings and ready to follow your teacher’s routine in order to start your learning. When arriving in the morning, this means that you are in class at 7:45 a.m., and not walking into the building at that time. Teachers, please log all tardies in your attendance, so that we can help track students that are consistently late. Also, all sending staff should write passes for any student that they are holding after the bell rings.
Are some of you wondering what this month is? From September 15 through October 15, we are celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month. During this month, we honor the incredible cultures, histories, and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.
This celebration starts on September 15th because it marks the independence anniversaries of five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua all celebrate their independence on this day, followed by Mexico on the 16th and Chile on the 18th.
We recognize the accomplishments and contributions of so many Hispanic individuals, including but not limited to:
-
Roberto Clemente: A legendary Hall of Fame baseball player and a hero who spent his life doing humanitarian and charity work to help others.
-
Sonia Sotomayor: A brilliant legal mind who made history as the first Hispanic Supreme Court Justice.
-
Lin-Manuel Miranda: The creative genius who blended history and hip-hop to create the massive hit Broadway musical, Hamilton.
A special shout out to Tristin Rodriguez for discussing this important day with me, and highlighting the importance of recognition and belonging in our school. Well done, Tristin!
Please note that the daily announcements are sometimes subject to change during the school day. When this happens the announcements will be updated on the website and on the video screen in the WMS lobby, but a new email will not be sent.
