Schofield School

Go Hawks

Dear Schofield Families,

The 2023-2024 school year has come to an end.  I want to take a moment to thank our staff for their dedication and hard work and all of our families for your support and partnership. It is a Schofield tradition for the fifth graders to pass the “golden shovel” onto the fourth graders as they assume the role of leaders.  The golden shovel is a reminder to work hard, take care of others, be kind and practice wellness.  We are grateful for the leadership of our fifth grader and will miss them dearly.  Of course we hope they will come back to visit because, “once a hawk, always a hawk!”

Summer Learning:
It’s great to stay engaged in learning over the summer!  Here are some valuable resources:

Standards-Based Report Cards:
Report cards are available in the Parent Portal of PowerSchool.  Students are graded based on rigorous end-of-year standards. The elementary curriculum is cyclical, so students not meeting a standard (not receiving an “M”) on the SBRC in June will have opportunities to return to related concepts and skills moving forward in the next grade level.  The end-of-year DIBELS/mCLASS reports (our early literacy screening reports) are available in the PowerSchool portal for all K-3 students.

Here are some helpful SBRC links:

Staffing Update:
On Thursday, at our whole-school assembly, we bid farewell and showed appreciation for staff who are leaving Schofield.   I have shared some staffing updates this spring and have a few more to share with you today.  Thank you to the following educators for their unwavering commitment to our students.

  • Congratulations to Mx. T who has accepted a position teaching art to students in grades K-8 in Somerville. They are thrilled to work in their hometown and begin this new journey.

  • Ms. Dennehy has resigned her position to explore teaching abroad next year in Spain!  We look forward to having her back to visit when she is home so we can hear all about this incredible opportunity.

  • Señora Buitrago will also be moving on from teaching Spanish to our youngest learners at Schofield.  We wish her the very best in her next endeavor.

  • Ms. McCann joined our staff midyear and had an impressive impact on some of our students with special education plans.  Due to the Upham closure, she will be moving on and will certainly be missed.

  • Although Mr. Ward will not be returning to Schofield next year, his impact on our students and staff will be long remembered.  He has touched the lives of many, fostering a love of learning while creating a positive, nurturing classroom environment.  Thank you, Mr. Ward!

  • We didn’t expect Mr. Williams would return to Schofield this year but we were so fortunate that he did!  While he has a gift for teaching, he will be exploring other career opportunities next year and will surely be missed.

While it is sad to say goodbye to our colleagues, we are excited to welcome some new staff to our Schofield team!  Click here to Meet Our New Staff.

Have a fantastic summer!

All the best,
Jordan
