Dear Schofield Community,

This past Monday, the district held its annual full day Professional Development Day.  From this perspective, it was a massive success.  I attended three separate workshops (from well over 60 plus offerings conducted by over 100 Wellesley teachers/administrators) on that day and each one was phenomenal.  I attended the following three workshops:  “Counting Students In:  Rethinking Math, Power and Possibility” (which featured the excellent math documentary Counted Out); “Elevating Student Voice:  Cultivation a Math Community Through Hands Down Conversations” (i.e., structuring math classes where student discourse is a lead element); and “Growing Up:  What Our Students Need to Thrive in School” which for inspiration used the novella “Foster” by Claire Keegan, a sublime Irish short story author.  I came away both inspired as well as motivated to learn more about how we can better support our math learning as well as our students’ social-emotional well being!  Again, many thanks to the district for supporting a day of profound learning!

Huge thanks to our Kindergarten parents for supplying a bevy of snacks and beverages for our staff room! Wow!  So kind and very much appreciated!

Private School Applications FYI:  It is that time of year again when application deadlines start to approach for those families who are considering private school for next year.

Most applications are due starting in mid-January straight through February 1.  January can be a busy time for teachers as they prepare progress reports for the last week of January.  We proactively ask for your help so that the application process can be handled efficiently during December and January.

In an effort to facilitate this process for all:

  • Please provide all application materials to your teacher at least 30 days in advance of the application deadline. To reiterate, this time of year is very busy for staff and they would like the time to give each student’s application the attention it deserves.

  • Please fill out and return the attached Release of Confidential Information form to Kristin Lueken luekenk@wellesleyps.org as soon as possible.

  • Many schools use the online application Ravenna (The Premier Admissions and Student Management platform for K-12 Private and Independent Schools) Once an account has been set up on Ravenna and we receive the Release of Confidential Information form, we can upload transcripts on the site.

Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for helping ensure that the process works smoothly for both the Schofield staff and your family.

Upcoming Events:

  • Friday, December 12 from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. in the gym – Dr. Goodwin Hawk Talk.

  • Friday, December 19 at 9 a.m. in the gym – Grade 5 Winter Solstice Concert.

Take care,

Stephen Goodwin, Ed.D.
