Dear Sprague Community,

First things first….the Patriot’s need us to wear our gear tomorrow to help them win on Sunday! We will have a Patriot’s spirit day on Friday, Feb. 2nd. If your child is not a fan, he or she may wear any sports/color gear of their choice.

We plan to begin the Sprague School Kindness Olympics at tomorrow’s school gathering. Each class will receive a ‘kindness jar’ and students will be able to add marbles to the jar when they report an act of kindness. Each class will have a Kindness Olympics poster with the 5 Olympic rings on it. Students can think about the rings as reminders of ways they can be kind:

Blue—Do something kind for a friend or classmate

Black—Do something to help someone who is older OR younger than you

Red–Do something to make our school better

Yellow—Do something friendly or inclusive

Green—Do something for someone in your family

The class that tallies the most acts of kindness will get some special privileges as a prize. We’ll let them know in 2 weeks. The Kindness Olympic Challenge will run from Feb. 2 to Feb. 16. At the school gathering tomorrow, we will share the story of the 2 Olympic runners who helped one another during the 2016 Rio Games.

The A-Catemy Awards are listed below in Dates to Remember. This is a celebration of reading and students’ favorite books in conjunction with Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Day. Each year, students vote on favorites in specific categories like Favorite Picture Book or Funniest Book or Favorite MCBA Book during Library time. We then reveal the winners at the A-Catemy Awards ceremony. We use the Academy Awards theme idea and have a red carpet first. Students are invited to dress up and ‘glam’ up for this day. Teachers take this very seriously…perhaps too seriously as many old prom dresses seem to be resurrected for the event. In any case, it is very fun and a great way to celebrate reading. We always welcome ‘Paparazzi’ and “Momarazzi” to come see us and take photos on the red carpet. The date will be March 2 at 8:45 AM.
