Dear WHS Community,
I’m writing to you today to announce that we have made a selection of an Interim Athletic Director for the Wellesley Public Schools beginning on November 1st. I am pleased to announce that Christopher McGrath has agreed to take on the AD role for us.
As you may recall, with John Brown due to retire at the end of October, we had conducted a search this spring for a permanent AD. We hosted stakeholder listening sessions for parents, coaches, students, and teachers, and ran a full process with resume screenings, first round interviews, finalist days, and reference checks. We even reposted the job and screened again. Ultimately, our process did not yield a full-time replacement for the position.
Given this outcome, we decided to open the job as an interim. This position will be full time and run through the end of next school year. We are grateful to Chris for stepping up. Sometime in early 2027 we will again post for a full time athletic director. Please consider engaging with our search for a permanent director next spring.
Chris just completed his 4th year as the Assistant Athletic Director here in Wellesley. Previously, he was the Director of Athletics for the Northbridge Public Schools and prior to that he served as the Assistant Athletic Director for the Medfield Public Schools. Chris is a Nationally Certified Athletic Administrator through the NIAAA. He holds a Masters of Education from the University of Texas at Austin, with a concentration in Sports Management. Chris earned a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology from the University of Maine at Orono, where he played club hockey.
Chris himself is extremely excited to take on the position. He already has knowledge of the staff, the facilities and the expectations of excellence in sports from our community. He has also built relationships with all the other ADs in our league as well as people across the state and at the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). I hope you will join me in welcoming him to the role even before he officially takes over in November. We will be posting Chris’ current position in the coming weeks.
Thanks to everyone for all your input over the course of this year.
Best,
Jamie Chisum
