Dear Hardy families,

Happy New Year!

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE WEEK BEFORE VACATION AND THIS WEEK:

As part of the Project Build Hardy initiative, 5th grade classes did a classroom based activity that involved an egg drop, in which students had to use STEAM skills to find a way to protect a plastic egg from cracking from up to 45 feet high. This was done in collaboration with the construction team as the drops were conducted from the top of a crane.

On the Friday before break, we had a School Spirit Day. We also had our Winter Concert featuring the Hardy band, orchestra, and chorus. Students did a great job sharing their talent!

PROJECT BUILD HARDY MONTHLY THEME
During the month of January we are focused on the theme of foundation/structures. Later in the month, we will have our district’s PreK-5 Department Head for Science & Engineering Lisa Fox share with students at all school assembly about our monthly theme. Stay tuned for more information on this presentation.

PROJECT BUILD HARDY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS
In conjunction with our monthly them of foundation/structures, our school librarian Lisa Sheehan has suggested the following book titles that compliment our monthly theme:

For K-2:
Construction – Sally Sutton
Billions of Bricks – Kurt Cyrus

For 3-5:
Someone Build the Dream – Lisa Wheeler
Concrete: From the Ground Up – Larissa Theule

REMINDER ABOUT NO PARKING IN THE STAFF PARKING LOT
As a friendly reminder, parents/caregivers are not allowed to park in the staff parking lot during arrival/dismissal times. With limited parking available, the parking is prioritized for staff. Thank you for your cooperation.

ATTENTION 3RD GRADE PARENTS/GUARDIANS
On Friday at 8:45 AM, we will have our next all-school meeting led by our 3rd graders. Parents/guardians of third graders are invited to attend.

SPECIAL THANKS
Special thanks to the 3rd grade parents for providing a special lunch to staff on the Wednesday before vacation. We appreciate your ongoing support!

CROSSING GUARD VACANCY
As of the end of February, there will be a vacancy for the Weston Road crossing guard position. The Wellesley Police Dept., that oversees crossing guard posts, has decided to move Amelia (the current crossing guard) to a post on Grove St. that is tied to the opening of the new Hunnewell School. Apply on the town of Wellesley website.

Have a great week!

Respectfully yours,
