Dear Upham and Hunnewell Families,

Wow! What an outstanding beginning to a wonderful year! I have witnessed many smiling faces each day. We are working through our arrival, dismissal, and bus issues daily. Thank you for your patience and understanding. Our new Hunnewell friends are settling in and fitting in very well. A huge “Thank You” goes out to Ms. McQuade, Mrs. Murray, Ms. Perregaux, and Ms. Morrisey (Hunnewell teachers). They have stepped up to provide support in every area of the school day. Maddie Smith in 1JM said, “This is the best first grade…EVER! P.J. in 1H said, “Well…it’s kinda cool.” Maddie Cortez in KB is always smiling and excited, which is a positive sign. So, you can see we are S.O.A.R.ing!

S.O.A.R.

“What in the world is this S.O.A.R.ing thing, Mr. Dees?” Well, let me tell you. At the end of last year, we developed an SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) Committee to re-establish our behavior rubrics (rules of conduct) for our school. We developed an acronym to help remember the most important rules for behavior. Since we are the Eagles, we found it fitting to develop an acronym that reflected our mascot, Ernie the Eagle.

S. Safety

O. Outstanding Effort

A. Always be Kind

R. Respect

We have posters in all our learning spaces reflecting our S.O.A.R. theme. We will be making a huge emphasis on following the Safety, Outstanding Effort, Always be Kind, and Respectful pieces as we move throughout the year. Since Hunnewell’s mascot is a Hawk, we feel the acronym will fit nicely for them. Here is my ask. Please emphasize this with your children. Encourage them to S.O.A.R. Thank you!

Pick-Up Patrol

Once I get passed calling this new application Paw Patrol, we will be ok. So, Pick-Up Patrol is our new system for absences, early dismissal, and changed dismissal. Please sign up here https://app.pickuppatrol.net/.  Absences and Early Dismissal must be placed by 8:00 AM and dismissal by 2:00 PM. If you have any questions, please contact our wonderful secretary Ms. Robin.
