Schofield School

Go Hawks

Hello Schofield Families,

We had a fantastic week at Schofield with a highlight being our Day of Imagineering on Wednesday. Students created vending machines, arcade games, spaceships, robots, clothing and even jewelry out of recycled materials.  This day would not have been possible without the leadership of Schofield’s art teacher, Ms. Desrosiers, as well as the efforts of teachers, many parent volunteers and Wellesley Middle School’s team of eighth graders.  One student returned to school on Thursday and shared with me that it was the best day of his life.  Doesn’t get much better than that!

Dr. Rob Evans:
Thanks to all of the families and teachers who attended the PTO-sponsored Rob Evans talk last night on the topic of resilience. Walking out of the library, my daughter Josephine Facetimed me from her dad’s house to let me know she had left the book she needed for school tomorrow at my house. I was about to tell her that I would drive it over tonight but then channeled Dr. Evan’s message and asked her what that was going to mean for her at school tomorrow. It really resonated with me when Dr. Evans said, “If you race to fix it, you are smoothing the path but not preparing your child for the path.”

I expected to be able to weave into the conversation some of the proactive steps we are taking at Schofield to foster positive peer-to-peer interactions as well as discuss where conflict meets bullying. However, the night didn’t head in that direction. Therefore, we will dedicate our next virtual Hawk Talk on May 18th at 7:30PM to discussing this topic.  Hope you can make it.
