Dear Sprague/Hunnewell,

On this very important day, I would like to take a moment to honor and recognize all veterans for their sacrifice and service.  Happy Veterans Day to our Sprague/Hunnewell veterans.  In addition, thank you to all the veterans of the past, present, and future.

 WEF Spelling Bee

  • Thank you to the Sprague PTO for sponsoring and supporting WEF as all donations directly benefit WPS students!

  • Thank you to Allie Baker, Jenny Lee, and John Wells, members of the Sprague parent team, for their spelling skills and Sprague spirit!

  • Sprague has a strong parent contingent supporting WEF – thank you!

Blasting at Stearns Road Project

  • As part of the Stearns Road project, blasting will occur most likely starting in the middle of next week

  • I am happy to report that the company performing the blasting has been highly responsive and accommodating to both us and the Wellesley Fire Department (WFD)

  • During blasting, the shocks will be extremely small and should sound like distant thunder

  • The contractor is committed to timing the blasting to avoid drop off, pickup, and recess times for our school

  • Our office will receive a notification about 30 minutes before each event and staff will be informed

  • A Fire Department representative will be on site at all times

  • The blasting is expected to occur twice a day and continue for about 20 days

  • We do not expect notable disruption to our school days, nor do we have safety concerns

  • For more information about blasting, please see the Town’s Frequently Asked Questions document

Sprague/Hunnewell Community Fun Run/Walk

  • Grab your sneakers and join the Spraguewell community for the first Fun Run/Walk on Wednesday, November 22

  • Students in each grade will have the chance to walk or run a course on the turf field with “pace groups” led by parent volunteers

  • Get excited for this opportunity to enrich our community by coming together through exercise with some Spraguewell spirit!

  • Since the winter holiday season is a critical time to enrich our broader Wellesley community, students are invited to participate in a food drive that same week to support the Wellesley Food Pantry

  • Donations will be collected curbside during drop-off on Monday, November 20 through Wednesday, November 22, or you can bring your donation to the bin in the alcove near the main entrance

  • Storage at the food pantry is limited so we ask that donations adhere to these immediate needs that they have identified:

Kindergarten & 1st Grade: Tomato Paste or Canned Tuna

2nd Grade & 3rd Grade: Canned Pineapple in Fruit Juice or Canned Tuna

4th Grade & 5th Grade: Canned Tomatoes (all types) or Baked or Refried Beans

  • Sign up to be a volunteer!

  • Parent volunteers are essential to the success of this event, and there’s lots of ways to be involved–whether you’re a runner, walker or general helper, and even if you can’t be present for the event itself

  • If you have any questions about the event, please contact Liz Cheron (lizcheron@gmail.com)
