Dear Upham Community,

First and foremost, I hope that everyone is safe and healthy. Maybe you are feeling like this, I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS VIRUS!!! I know that I feel the same way. Recently the CDC provided some recommendations on how to cope with the stress. Additionally, please check out the report that I referenced during our video conference last week. Video Chat Fatigue (2).pdf

Ways to cope with stress:

  • Take breaks from watching, reading, or listening to news stories, including social media. Hearing about the pandemic repeatedly can be upsetting.
  • Take care of your body.
    • Take deep breaths, stretch, or walk.
    • Try to eat healthy and well-balanced meals.
    • Exercise regularly and get plenty of sleep.
  • Make time to unwind. Try to do some other activities you enjoy.

In lieu of sending out the standards-based report cards and holding formal teacher-parent conferences this spring, our K-5 classroom teachers will offer individual parent/guardian check-ins to their families beginning next week. Maintaining connections between school staff and students is paramount to our remote learning efforts. Thus, the Spring 2020 K-5 teacher-family check-ins are opportunities for educators to connect individually with families in order to check-in on students’ social, emotional, and academic wellness. Check-ins also serve as end-of-year communication that allows teachers and parents to wrap up the school year and attend to any critical next steps in the service of students. Your child’s teacher will reach out to you to schedule a time for the check-in. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me or Robin.

Please remain safe. Thank you for your support.

Dare to Dream

Mr. Dees
