Schofield School

Go Hawks

Dear Schofield Families,

We have had a great week here at Schofield.  Thank you to our wonderful PTO for bringing the Plimoth Patuxet Wampanoag program to our third graders and The Kids on the Block puppet show to our kindergarteners.  Both events were highly engaging and enhanced the learning happening for our students.

Breakfast:
Our breakfast pilot program will begin on THURSDAY, JANUARY 18th.  I hope to be able to share a tutorial video with you on Tuesday.  In the meantime, here are some important details to note:

  • Breakfast is available for all students.

  • Students DO NOT need to order breakfast in advance.

  • It would be helpful for families to preview the menu with their children before coming to school so they know what to expect.   The menu will be available early next week.

  • Students who would like to have breakfast should enter through the front doors at 8:25 when the bell rings.

  • Students will take their breakfast to their classroom, unpack their belongings, and eat at their table spot or desk.

Fun in the Snow!
Recess was a blast this week in the snow!  Brandon, Joe, Jackson and Drew from 4E interviewed some of our Schofield hawks to find out the best part about playing in the snow.  Here are a few responses:

“Making snow angels!”  – Arisbeth from KH and Blaire from 3G
“Building a snow fort.”  – James from KM
“Playing on the big mountain of snow.” – Charlotte from 4E

Sledding:
I received some questions this week about whether or not sledding is allowed at Schofield. Back in the fall, our staff spent some time together identifying common recess expectations and decided that we would not have students sled at the lunch recess due to the number of students outside at this time and instead leave sledding up to the classroom teachers at the other recess.  I hope this clears up any confusion or misunderstanding.

MLK Weekend
Finally, as we begin Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend, I want to pause and acknowledge the life and legacy of this inspiring civil rights leader.  As a parent and an educator, I see this weekend as a reminder to frequently engage in meaningful conversations with our children about the importance of diversity, equality and compassion.  I hope that together, we can instill these values in our children and empower them to make positive contributions within their own communities.

We look forward to seeing students back at Schofield on Tuesday.  Enjoy the long weekend.
